v4.94.0 — A daily check-in, progress you can see, and gentle reminders

New on Today: a daily check-in that takes about a minute. Tap a face for how the day went, write one win, and the one thing that matters most tomorrow.

The next day, Today asks whether that thing happened — Yes, done or Not today — so the streak is built on something useful.

This week at a glance, worked out only from your own check-ins: which days you checked in, wins, priorities done, how the week felt compared with last week, and your best run.

Milestones for real progress — first check-in, 3 and 7 days in a row, 10 wins, 5 priorities done, 30 and 100 check-ins, 4 steady weeks. No points and no fake levels.

Gentle reminders, off until you switch them on: one evening nudge if you have not checked in, and a note on the day a bill is due. Palarid has no server, so reminders only come while Palarid is open in a tab or as an installed app; the card says so. A bill you have marked Paid on Today is not reminded, and a bill set for the 29th–31st is reminded on the last day of a shorter month, the same rule Today uses.

The privacy policy now describes the check-in and how reminders work.

Privacy: check-ins stay on this device, are included in your backup, and are never sent anywhere.

v4.93.0 — New: Historical Maps

New tool in Explore — Historical Maps: 132 public-domain maps from the Library of Congress, each with a short note in Palarid’s own words, from a 1475 map of the Holy Land to the 1919 peace-conference maps, including the 1507 Waldseemüller map (the first to name America), Mercator’s 1538 world map and John Mitchell’s 1755 map of North America.

Browse by region (World, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Americas, Oceania, Sky & stars) and by era, narrow the years with a timeline, search by place, mapmaker, year or anything in the notes, and sort oldest, newest or A–Z. A different map of the day every day, and “Surprise me”.

A full-screen viewer with zoom (buttons, mouse wheel and double-click zoom towards the spot under the pointer; two-finger pinch on a touch screen), drag to move around, next and previous, keyboard shortcuts (arrows move around a zoomed map; + and − zoom; 0 fits; Esc closes), a one-click citation, and a link to the Library of Congress page for every map. Higher-resolution images load as you zoom in.

Save maps you like with ☆ — they stay on this device and come back with a backup restore.

Search the Library of Congress’s entire map collection — hundreds of thousands of maps — straight from Palarid, with an option to show only maps published before 1926.

Privacy: this tool is marked LIVE. Map images come from the Library of Congress, and only the words you type into its search box are sent there. Those searches are not kept in Palarid’s offline cache. It is listed on the privacy page and the outside-services page.

Accessibility, in every tool: moving through a page with the keyboard no longer leaves the focused control hidden under the top bar, or under the bottom bar on a phone. Measured before the fix: 19 of 78 focus stops hidden when tabbing backwards on a computer, 16 of 86 when tabbing forwards on a phone; now none.

Accessibility: two home-screen widgets no longer announce their results a second time to screen readers.

iPhone: tapping a text field no longer zooms the page in. Every field in the app, on the calculator pages and on the homepage is now 16px on a phone screen (Safari zooms on anything smaller).

Installed app: the splash screen and the phone's browser bar now use Palarid's real colours — they were still the cold black of the old design.

Historical Maps search: requests are paced to the Library of Congress's limit of 20 a minute (going over it locks you out of loc.gov for an hour), and the Library's "too many requests" and "are you a person?" answers are explained with a link to search on its own site instead of showing a blank.

v4.92.2 — Palarid is free

Palarid is free — every tool, calculator and mission, with no account, no trial and no paid plan. The pricing menu item is gone from every page, and the homepage now says plainly: free, all of it.

The planned paid tier (Plus) and its waiting list are gone from the site and the app: the waiting-list pages, sign-up forms, the Settings card and the dashboard and calculator prompts. Old /plus/ links now go to a short page that explains Palarid is free.

If you joined the old waiting list, your address will not be used for anything; the privacy policy explains how to have it deleted.

Nothing about your data changes. Everything stays on your device and you can export it any time.

Under the hood: the payment code stays switched off and is listed as not in use; the release checks now fail if a price, a paid plan or a waiting list reappears anywhere.

v4.91.0 — A proper front door, the app at /app, and missions that finish

palarid.com now opens on a short product page that loads in a fraction of the time — it no longer downloads the whole app just to say what Palarid is. It shows the real app, with example data. If you already use Palarid you go straight to your workspace. The app lives at palarid.com/app and every old address still works.

New here? The app asks one question — what you want help with — and gives you a starting point. You can skip it.

Calculators now suggest one helpful next step. Take-home pay can carry your monthly figure into Money — only if you confirm it there. Mortgage, stamp duty, pension and others link to the mission they belong to. Nine calculators (including mortgage, BMI and VAT) had been missing the share and remember buttons; they have them now.

Missions: every step says why it matters; steps can be skipped and un-skipped; finishing shows what you did. Four new missions: Get organised, Start a new job, a monthly Money Reset and an annual Money Check-up.

The app's home screen is calmer: the clock, world-population counter and technical status strip are gone, replaced by plain facts worked out on your device — “Car insurance renewal in 12 days”, “Emergency fund is 62% of the way”.

Fixed: choosing an accent colour in Settings did nothing — a second, older accent setting was undoing it on every load. There is now one setting, and on the light theme it uses a readable version of your colour. The Decisions space is now called Plan (palarid.com/plan; old /decisions links still work). Vision Board pins now live on your Mood Board too, tagged Vision — one set of pins, nothing lost.

Subscriptions can now take a renewal date, and Today reminds you a week before it renews (a fortnight for yearly ones), with Keep it and Cancelled buttons. Household can record when a warranty ends and shows it on Today in the month before. Household no longer offers Password or Account categories under its warning not to store them.

Fixed: the Notes folder list was always blank because of a one-character slip; folders show again and can be used with a keyboard. Net worth now shows a negative total as −£5,000, not £-5,000. Productivity and Timers now share one pomodoro count for the day (earlier counts are added once, nothing is deleted).

Second full audit: calculators refuse impossible inputs instead of freezing or showing £NaN — rent vs buy (99,999,999 years froze the page), compound interest, Compound Growth, FIRE, tip and mortgage schedule. With a keyboard, Tab now starts at the skip link, the floating buttons come last, and focus follows you to each new screen. Printed pages no longer show filled buttons black on black.

Calculators with published known-answer checks now say so, with the tax year and date checked.

New pages: Product, Money, Missions, Pricing, Press, Resources, Releases (what each release changed for privacy and security), Refunds and Outside services, and a changelog feed. Plus is described but not on sale; its price will be announced before launch. Exporting stays free on every plan.

Corrected: the privacy policy's table of overseas services still listed four services Palarid stopped contacting on 21 September. They have been removed and the correction is noted on the page.

Fixed: the Sleep Chart drew every bar in one colour; offline support never installed for people whose first visit was a direct link to a tool; Knowledge and Currencies are now short pages with a Jump-to list.

Try it with sample data: a new, empty workspace can be filled with a clearly labelled example — every item starts “Example:” and a banner says so on every screen. Clearing it removes only the examples; anything you added stays.

Money wording is neutral: retirement figures are shown as lower, central and higher scenarios, and nothing tells you what you “should” do with your money.

The known-answer checks behind the calculators grew from 17 to 44 — exact thresholds, a pound either side, zero, very large and invalid amounts. The public table on the verification page is produced by running them.

Every UK tax threshold now lives in one table with its source. Next year's figures stay marked as draft until gov.uk publishes them.

The Plus page asks what you would want from Plus instead of showing a price. Joining the list is described in the privacy policy.

palarid.com/calculators now goes to the calculators.

A new homepage, rebuilt around one story: Today, Money, Missions, privacy you can see, and calculators you can use straight away. It loads a single small stylesheet and no images, works without JavaScript, and looks right in light and dark mode from small phones to large screens. The product pictures are clearly labelled illustrations with made-up data.

Sample data is now clearly marked DEMO DATA, and “Start fresh” removes it.

Fixed: a tool opened straight from an address — for example Money, reached from the take-home calculator — appeared on screen but none of its buttons could be pressed. Every tool opened by address now works.

Opening Palarid now takes you straight to Today with one question about what you want help with, instead of a second sales page inside the app.

Today tidied: “Worth knowing” and “Go to” rows read left to right, and an empty strip under the search box is gone. The public pages now use the same buttons as the homepage.

Search: pressing Enter opens the best match, which is shown highlighted. It used to open something only when there was exactly one match.

Bills: a bill you add today for a day that has already passed this month is no longer shown as overdue, and each bill now has a “Mark paid” button (the same mark Today uses). New bills start in “Other” rather than “Rent”, and the day field no longer says “days”.

Choosing what you want help with now opens the matching mission, scrolled into view. Settings no longer quotes a Plus price the website does not show yet, and the dark theme names are readable in light mode.

A mistyped address now offers “Go to Today” and the homepage. Sample data now fills the Money view as well.

v4.90.0 — Every tool speaks, every delete can be undone, fewer duplicate lists

Accessibility: in 71 trackers and logs, adding or removing an entry happened silently for screen-reader users. Every tool now announces the change — “Added: Monstera · every 7 days”, “Removed: Cactus · 1 entry” — once it has settled, and never while you are typing inside the list. The Unit Converter’s answer and the Secrets vault’s lock and unlock are announced too. Measured across all 133 tools.

Every delete asks first and can be undone — checked in a real browser in 50 trackers by adding a real entry, removing it, and pressing Undo.

Empty trackers now say what to do next and where the entry is kept, instead of just “No entries”.

Mind & Money’s net-worth chart and the Net Worth tool now share one history; Reading Queue is now your bookmarks tagged “to read”. Existing entries were copied across automatically and the old lists were left untouched.

Fixed: with a search typed, Bookmarks removed a different bookmark from the one you pressed.

v4.89.0 — Security and data-safety fixes, one capture, one reminder surface

Security: a backup file from someone else could put web code into saved records in 24 tools and into the Data Vault’s list of keys. That code then ran when the tool opened. Every tool now shows saved values as plain text. A new test fills every store with hostile values and opens every tool in a real browser.

Data: restoring a backup silently dropped Life admin (every renewal date), Mission progress and Pregnancy dates. They are now restored. A new test exports a full workspace, deletes it, restores it and checks that every saved item comes back exactly.

New: backups can be protected with a passphrase, using the same encryption as the Secrets vault (AES-GCM with a key from 600,000 rounds of PBKDF2). Every backup file now records what it holds and a checksum, so importing tells you whether the file is unchanged.

New: quick capture puts things where they live. “Tesco £42.18” goes into Expenses, a goal into Goals, a habit into Habits and an idea into Notes. Before, expenses never reached the Expenses total. Anything you are not sure about can go to a new Inbox with “Decide later”, and you can sort it from the dashboard.

New: Today now also reminds you about MOT and service dates (Car Care), elder care appointments, plants due for water, people you meant to stay in touch with, overdue home jobs, doses not yet logged (Meds) and decisions worth looking back on. Each item says why, and none of them can outrank a real deadline. Many can be finished from Today: Took it, Watered, Talked, Done.

New: Weekly Review opens with your week, read from your own records: habits, spending, what is coming up, what you are waiting for and your Inbox. Up to three priorities you choose appear on Today until you mark them done.

Improved: Anniversaries and Birthdays & Dates now share one list, so anniversaries come up on Today. Productivity’s habit grid now shows the same habits as Habits. Your existing entries were copied across and the originals kept.

Fixed: birthdays saved through quick capture showed “undefined” beside the name. Birthdays no longer shift to the day before in some time zones.

Fixed: Mind Map and Job Offers failed to open if their saved data was damaged. Both open now.

Fixed: Bucket List added three example goals to a new list without asking. The examples are now suggestions, added only if you tap one. Lists that already contain them are left alone.

Accessibility: printing now gives black text on white paper, without the app’s navigation or floating buttons.

Accessibility: the command palette, quick capture and the tools library keep keyboard focus inside while open and hand it back when they close. The palette’s highlighted result is announced to screen readers.

Accessibility: the main navigation marks the space you are in, the page header is a landmark, and the top search box has a label. The Productivity habit grid can now be used with a keyboard.

Improved: the Trust Centre, the accessibility statement and the calculation-checks page now name the current release. A release check keeps them in step with the measurements behind them.
