Holiday entitlement calculator

Your statutory paid holiday in days or hours — for full-time, part-time, irregular-hours and part-year work.

Quick answer. Almost every worker is entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year. Working 5 days a week that is 28 days; working 3 days a week it is 16.8 days. Statutory leave is capped at 28 days, so someone working 6 days a week still gets 28. Bank holidays can be counted as part of it.

Figures reviewed: 25 September 2026, against GOV.UK holiday entitlement: 5.6 weeks a year, capped at 28 days, with irregular-hours and part-year workers accruing leave from hours worked for leave years beginning on or after 1 April 2024.

Part-time

Part-time workers with regular hours get the same 5.6 weeks, which comes to fewer days: 3 days a week × 5.6 = 16.8 days. In hours, someone working 22.5 hours a week gets 22.5 × 5.6 = 126 hours.

Irregular hours and part-year work

If your hours change from one pay period to the next, or you have weeks in the year when you do not work and are not paid, you build up leave as you go: 12.07% of the hours you work in each pay period. That figure is 5.6 weeks divided by the 46.4 weeks left in the year once 5.6 weeks of leave are taken out. It applies to leave years that began on or after 1 April 2024.

Starting or leaving part-way through the year

Your entitlement is in proportion to the part of the leave year you work — 6 months at 5 days a week is 14 days. When you leave, you are paid for statutory leave you have built up but not taken. An employer can round your entitlement up but not down, and can offer more than the legal minimum.

Bank holidays

There is no legal right to paid time off on bank holidays. An employer can choose to count the 8 bank holidays in England and Wales as part of the 28 days, which leaves 20 days to take when you choose.

Common questions

How many days holiday am I entitled to?

At least 5.6 weeks a year. For a 5-day week that is 28 days, which can include bank holidays. Statutory leave is capped at 28 days, even if you work 6 or 7 days a week.

How much holiday do part-time workers get?

5.6 times the days you work a week. Working 3 days a week gives at least 16.8 days' paid leave a year.

How is holiday worked out for irregular hours?

For leave years beginning on or after 1 April 2024, irregular-hours and part-year workers build up holiday at 12.07% of the hours they work in each pay period.

Are bank holidays included?

They can be. Bank holidays do not have to be given as paid leave, and an employer can choose to include them in the statutory 5.6 weeks.

What happens to holiday if I leave my job?

You are paid for statutory holiday you have built up in the leave year but not taken.
