Where your data lives

Palarid is a local-first application. When you add a task, log a spend or write a note, that information is written to storage inside your own browser — localStorage and IndexedDB — on the device you are using. It is not transmitted to us, because there is no account system and no database holding user records.

Two practical consequences follow, and both matter:

Nobody else can read it — not us, not an administrator, not a subpoena to a server that does not exist.
Nobody else can recover it. If you clear your browser data, use a private window, or lose the device, that information is gone. This is the real trade-off of local-first design, and we would rather state it plainly than let you discover it later. Export a backup regularly.

AI processing — stated accurately

Palarid's AI features are not local. We will not describe them as offline or on-device, because that would be untrue. When you use the Co-Pilot or any AI-assisted tool:

The text of your prompt is sent over the internet to the AI provider currently selected.
Any context you explicitly approve is sent with it.
The provider processes that request under their terms and retention policy, not ours.
The reply is returned and stored locally in your browser.

Everything else in Palarid — every calculator, tracker, planner and note — runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing.

If you supply your own API key

A key you paste into Palarid is stored in your browser's local storage. It is not encrypted, it is readable by anything with access to that device or browser profile, and any usage billed to it is your responsibility. Do not enter a key on a shared or public computer. Palarid never sends your key anywhere except the provider you selected.

Live data

Where Palarid shows external information it labels the state honestly:

Live — retrieved successfully just now.
Cached — the last successful result is being shown.
Unavailable — the source could not be reached.

When a feed fails, Palarid says so. It does not substitute an invented figure. We previously found and removed a hard-coded price that was displayed when the live feed failed — that was a defect, and it is fixed.

Honest limitations

Things we could claim but will not:

Browser storage is not encrypted secure storage. We will not call it that.
Palarid has no multi-device sync today. If you want your data elsewhere, export it.
Calculators produce estimates for planning, not regulated financial advice.
Health tools track and inform; they do not diagnose. For anything severe, persistent or worsening, speak to a clinician. In an emergency, call emergency services.
Palarid is a small independent project, not a large company. We would rather say that than imply otherwise.

Your controls

Export everything — download all your data as JSON at any time.
Delete selectively or entirely — remove a category or wipe the workspace. Destructive actions ask for confirmation and offer a short undo window.
Turn AI off — every AI feature is optional; the rest of Palarid works without it.
Remove a provider key — deletes it from browser storage immediately.
Use it entirely offline — the core tools work with no network at all.

Palarid is provided free. There is no subscription and no payment is collected today. If paid capabilities are introduced, they will be announced clearly and will never remove access to data you have already created.
